CHANDIGARH: As the Municipal Corporation (MC) gears up to convert free parking lots into paid, a crucial parking lot in Sector 17 is lying unattended for over a year. Haphazard parking of vehicles has turned the area opposite the medical office of health into a mess, with the civic body failing to allot it to a contractor.
"We tried to allot the parking lot a couple of times in the past, but no contractor came forward due to financial reasons. They are also hesitant as the lot is surrounded by government offices and employees hardly pay to park their vehicles. But soon we will again advertise tenders for the contractors to participate in an auction," said MC officials. Adding to the chaos was the practice of commuters to use the entry and exit points for dual purposes.
